Busy street outside our window and the street noise is very loud. The windows are almost completely sound proof, which was great, but we would have preferred to keep the windows open at night.

I am impressed with the lady at the front desk who was very friendly. She even gave me a double bed (instead of 2 single beds that I originally booked) as I was travelling solo and an early check-in! Best pf all, I got a gift for following the instructions on the email on where to check-in. That is the most thoughtful gesture I've received on my travel. I highly recommend the guest house.

It is located in the zurich old town and very close to the lake, main attractions, railway station and shopping centre. Easy to transfer to station and other places.
Lift is too small therefore we have to do several trips to transfer the luggages. Reception is separate from the guesthouse and I had difficulty in checking in but staff helped me to identify the reception once I have called them.

We happened to be there during an annual festival which covers the whole of old town which was extremely fun and made me experience a whole new side of Zurich! Really great location, very friendly and helpful staff, clean, rooms eventhough small are reasonably comfortable, esp if your suitcase fits under the bed.
Can get noisy. In summer time with an open window you'll be hearing church clocks every half hour throughout the night. Didn't bother me the second night with the window closed. Not the best place to go with a bulky suitcase (tiny elevator and stairs). Water, tea and coffee are free but only available at the main hotel now (which is a small block away) and bringing hot cups into room can be a challenge with their "slide in the card" system.

Our only suggestion would be better lighting in the room. There were small swivel wall lights near each bed that were nice for reading but otherwise just a ceiling light that was somewhat dim. Even just a lamp on the desk would help.

This was appreciated after a long trip. Breakfast was excellent and good value. The restaurant staff were welcoming, generous, and brilliant at what they do. The location was excellent, close to restaurants and boutique shops, and very close to the river, transport, and train station. Complimentary water served in rooms. I would stay here again..
No complaints, really. Whist it would always be nice to have a jug in the room for tea and coffee, to compensate for this, the hotel had complimentary coffee and tea in the foyer, as well as free fresh fruit for guests. A nice touch

Alexander Guesthouse is a great place to stay in Zurich for a short visit. It is close to the main train station in the center of the city, shops and restaurants. It is in the funky Old Town area. The staff are very friendly and helpful and the guest house is clean and well maintained.
The guest house only has 2 person rooms, so larger groups need multiple rooms. There is no tea or coffee making facilities in the rooms, however, they are provided in reception for free. The guesthouse has multiple floors and the lift is very small, so getting large luggage to your room can be an interesting experience.

Staff were extremely friendly and helpful, bed was super comfortable and the shower was great. My room was very clean, pillows were excellent! Plenty of space for hanging up clothes which is handy for a business traveller. Windows are super thick, so even though it's in the centre of the old town, you don't hear too much from outside. The proximity to restaurants and the lake is fantastic, as is the value for money, given that Zurich is one of the most expensive cities in the world.
Unfortunately there is no fridge or kettle in the room, which is a deal breaker for me. The walls are also extremely thin - I could hear the person in the room next door having a long facetime conversation, and the footsteps of the room above were too loud.

It was really hard to find. You have to check in at a different hotel on another street. It was really noisy outside the room and you couldn’t shut the window because of how hot it was! The room was stifling hot with no a/c. The shuttle costs €40 to the airport. Breakfast is not included. Overall, this place is overpriced and not worth it :-(

The hotel is located right in the center, very close to everything — excellent location. The room is basic but not small, and it has everything you need. Daily housekeeping is provided. The room was quiet, comfortable, and pleasant. The fact that reception was a 2-minute walk away didn’t bother me at all. There's also a small fridge in the room. Great value for money — I would stay here again if the price remains reasonable.

The receptionist, man with the glasses working late in the evening on Jan 11 was very rude. It was 1am, and he gave me vague directions to the guesthouse, I’ve never been to Zurich and I don’t speak German, so I understand the street names he’s telling me. Even after asking for the address he said it was “simple” and that “I should be able to find it”. After walking with all my luggage around the st for 10 mins I returned and he offered to show me, which I was thankful for until he kept repeating: “I TOLD YOU that it was this way!” and “I TOLD YOU you insert the card chip first!”. I was very kind with him until this. He initially didn’t want to do his job, and once I asked for extra help he talked down to me like I’m his child or something. No way to treat a customer who just came after 8 hours of traveling. Won’t be staying here again. This is no way to treat a customer who walked in with a smile on their face.

The rooms were very hot, and when opening the windows, the air from the alley smelled awful. I had to sleep with the window cracked and the awful smell in the room. It also felt more like a hostel than a hotel.
