The location could not be beat! It is right in the center (and I know this city because years ago I lived there). It's right next to the Piazza Maggiore, right near many excellent shops and great places to eat. In the summer, the "Cine sotto le stelle" ("Cinema under the Stars") takes place literally 50 meters away; it's a world-known summer event showing free films with one of the biggest screens in the world. This hotel is an enchanting place. It's traditional, and I felt like I was in Italy of 40 years ago (only with a modern flat screen TV, air conditioning, and shower). It was really a lovely place. Good free breakfast too. The staff was nice and very helpful as well.
It was a little hard to find. I'd say to use 3 places as points of reference: it's next to the Decathalon store; it's across from the Feltrinelli book store on the corner and it's across/diagonal from the Twin Towers of Bologna. The hotel sign is small, so it might help to look for those three markers or to use Google maps to find it. Other than that, no complaints!

Location is fantastic and comes with good views from some of the windows, the price is reasonable for what you get, reception is staffed 24 hours a day, and the bedrooms and bathrooms are kept very clean.
Breakfast choice was a little limited for a north european taste but is classical italian style (yoghurt, pastries, coffee etc). There is no aircon in the rooms but the overhead fan kept the room feeling cool. Neither of these is a problem but definitely something to be aware of.

You are right in the center of Bologna.
The owner had great tips for things to do around the area and is very nice.
The price is very affordable.
If you are sensitive to the sun and cannot.sleep from too much light, this place is perfect for you. There is shade(that you control) that can cover your window, and it blocks so much light. You control how much sun or street light you want in your room. The windows also do a great job of blocking out street noise.
The shared bathrooms are not a big deal. There are two of them, just find a time to take a shower and it's usually empty. I think it's because not everyone is using the shared showers. Some have their own bathrooms.

The location is amazing, just across the twin towers. We could reach everywhere on foot to visit the historical places.
The city center is closed for traffic (taxi, bus, etc.) during the day. Therefore, the location is perfect for city tour. I recommend it. The linens, towels are clean. High ceiling, big room, and great Bologna view from the window is plus. The staff is extremely helpful, thank you for everything. We will come back! PS: we did not take breakfast, so we cannot comment on that.
Only minor drawback: we would prefer a bathroom in the room. However, we did not have any issues with the shared bathroom. It was clean and not busy.

The location was fantastic; I had a wonderful view of the two towers from my room and it is well located for restaurants and walking to the train station.
My room was clean and comfortable with lovely high ceilings and tall windows with shutters. For how central it is, it was surprisingly quiet.
The staff are absolutely lovely.

The room was clean and comfortable with a sink in there too which was handy as I had a single room with shared bathroom. I normally book an en-suite room but in this case, I was happy with the shared bathrooms which were always free and super clean. The shower was great!
I didnโt expect breakfast but there was a little selection of snacks available - nothing to write home about. Wasnโt personally my cup of tea but the couple next to me were tucking in, so for the price itโs a nice addition for some!
The room was situated near reception. Itโs an old building and noise carries easily. The phone/doorbell on reception was loud but, to be honest, after 11:30pm there was no noise until 08:00 the next morning so I actually slept really well.

When things are done with love and care, nothing else is missing. L'Albergo Garisenda is the clear example that you don't need extreme luxury to have a wonderful and pleasant stay. I would say that the place stands out for its excellent location and for how well cared for and clean its owners keep it. In addition, the kindness of the owners makes you feel at home and they offer help whenever you need it. It has been a pleasure to stay here! If I return to Bologna, I would definitely book again!

The property is a beautiful old property, with a gorgeous breakfast area. The staff we met (who were the owners, I think) were really lovely- friendly and helpful. It was quiet, and in a brilliant location for accessing Bologna. It was very clean and you could tell the owners took pride in this.
There wasnโt anything we didnโt like. But people staying at the property should be aware that the very reasonable price reflects the fact that some of the facilities are older (in keeping with the style of the hotel.)

The location was right in the heart of the old town with good access to tourist sites and the university. On the day I opted for a room with a view of the towers but (Monday) night noise wasn't a problem. The shared bathroom was nearby, clean, well sized but the room also had a hand basin, mirror and hairdryer for more extended needs. Staff were very friendly and helpful. I confidently left luggage for a while after checking out. There was a charming breakfast room with a simple breakfast included.

The hosts of this family-run albergo were charming, helpful and available at all times. The location is unbeatable, right in the heart of vibrant Bologna. The room was a good size, bigger than we expected, very clean and up-to-date, including the bathroom.
We arrived on a Saturday, not knowing that the street was closed to cars on the weekend, so we had to walk about 50 meters from where the taxi dropped us off and the albergo entrance was hard to find - we had to ask for directions from a nearby shopkeeper. But having the streets closed to traffic on the weekend was terrific - the whole area was lively with local people out having fun.
There is a nice outdoor patio, but it would be nice if there was an indoor sitting room.

We loved staying - the location is incredible, the room was beautiful (recently refurbished with a view of the towers), and the hosts were lovely and friendly. We enjoyed a coffee each morning sitting on the balcony, made by the hosts. Would absolutely stay again.

Right smack in the heart of the old town. The room was extremely clean. The owners were really nice by letting us leave our bags at the counter before check-in, as well as after checking-out. The size of the room was good. Charming and well maintained dated furnishings that gave character to the space. Location was superb. Glad that there was a modern elevator to get us to the lodging.
Extremely inconsiderate and rowdy crowd that patroned Pizza Gingio along the main street in the wee hours of the morning. Even the double glazing of the windows was unable to keep out the noise at 4am in the morning.
If you're a light sleeper, try to request a room that faces the courtyard instead of the main street.

Breakfast quality is the so called" piccolo colazione" so it is limited in offers.

Perfect location, near the towers and Plaza Maggiore. Clean, comfortable room! Bathroom was updated and clean. The staff was very nice and helpful. They have a cute terrace to sit on to have coffee. It is the most unassuming from the outside because there is no street frontage, which can be a little confusing. But once you get the hang of it, itโs pretty easy to get to and the lift goes straight to the third floor.

Location was steps away from the Piazza Maggiore, as were shops and restaurants. My husband and I were also able to walk to the main train station as well. The hosts were extremely kind and helpful. This was our second stay at this comfortable albergo.

You definitely can't beat the location--right under the Arsenelli tower in the city center. Laura and her husband were exceptionally friendly and helpful. The rooms wer so typical Italian, spacious, elegant, with high ceilings and comfy beds.
We could have stayed longer!

The staff were so kind, welcoming, and helpful. Room was a good size and off the rear courtyard so it was nice and quiet. We didn't do breakfast but they offered us cafe, which was nice.

Great location, great terrace for small breakfast. The hosts where very friendly and available at all times.
Check before booking if your room contains the shared bathrooms, but we didn't have any problems with using them, there's two for 3 rooms, they were clean. The room still contains a sink.
We could leave our luggage after check-out to use the rest of our day in Bologna before heading out.
There was a water boiler in our room that was apparently also used for other rooms, so it turned on whenever anyone used hot water.

The outside courtyard is a major attraction as is the bar in which you can buy a drink and then take it to the courtyard. The location is fabulous and it's extremely easy to come and go as you please at all hours. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful as well.
The only issue was the room became very hot during the night. We could have opened the window but didn't feel comfortable doing that, as birds or bugs could enter.

Exceptional location. Right next to the towers, and close to the famed university. It is run by a wife and husband team, very friendly and helpful with local info.Very homely feel.
Bathrooms are shared, but it was not a problem.
