1) Location of the property is great, not in the most touristy location, but quiet close to it (1-2.5 kms). So the surroundings are not crowded and yet not far from all the happening places. 2) Every single person in the staff are wonderful, shout out especially to Mr Jorge. He is funny, friendly and extremely kind. 3) Beautiful property, gorgeous staircase, nice big rooms. 4) Clean and extra attention is given to cleanliness.

Everything was great, the staff was amazing, also the room very comfortable and clean. The breakfast could have been better, maybe adding some eggs on the menu.

We booked two nights with breakfast included, but unfortunately had to leave very early on our second morning to catch a flight and couldn’t benefit from the breakfast that day. It would have been appreciated if there was some flexibility, like offering a takeaway breakfast or adjusting the price slightly. Other than that, our stay was pleasant.

Overall the hotel was in a perfect location and the facilities lovely. Our room was just what we needed. The breakfast was very nice and the staff very friendly and accommodating.

More work could be done on sound proofing as we could hear the bathrooms next to our room but it was ok but not great when you had a late arrivals. Our cistern was dripping but we did report it.

Our room was gorgeous, really high ceilings and lovely wooden blackout blinds with thin curtains. Everything was really well done, very clean and tidy too. Bed was comfy and we had a lot of space, with hanging rails and shelves for our clothes. Location was also great, really central in walking distance to the main parts of the city, but tucked away in a quiet location. Breakfast was good, laid out nicely and everything we needed to start the day well. It didn't feel too busy or crowded.

This is a dated hotel, but with very large rooms. The breakfast was good, though the selection was a bit limited. The location is convenient and strategic. With a few improvements, it could really upgrade its offering. Overall, it gets a passing grade.

There's not much soundproofing between rooms.

Its nice to have a hotel parking though it's 13 euros/night. The room was spacious, bathroom & bed good. Plenty of hangers, nice view, breakfast, everything sufficient. It's about a 23 minute walk to the downtown or 5 minutes to the Trindade Metro. 2 more stops gets you to the Sao Bento downtown Metro.

It would be nice to have 2 comfortable chairs in room 32.

Great location across from the newly renovated park. You can easily walk all over the city. The staff was very friendly and helpful. They have very reasonable parking on site which is a big help if you bring your car to the city. We had our dog with us and there weren’t any problems. It’s a renovated gem of a building. Very nicely redone. We had a beautiful terrace looking out over the city towards the river. The room and the bathroom were spacious. We will stay again.

The breakfast was disappointing. With all the great cafes within walking distance it’s better to go out.

The location of the hotel is excellent — close to the city center, with easy access to popular spots. The room I stayed in was spacious and the bed was comfortable.

the sound insulation was terrible; I could hear people walking upstairs in the middle of the night, even though I was very sleepy. Also, bring your own flip-flops, as the hotel doesn’t provide any.

The Rex Hotel is located just outside of the busy city centre but that's the attraction. Choice of Metro stations close by - Lapa for the airport or coast; downhill to Trindade for links everywhere, but used Faria Guimaraes to get back to avoid that last hill walk after a long day. Very happy with the room, top floor with terrace. The hotel is traditional which makes it attractive, with spacious rooms and good modern facilities. Breakfast was fresh, good quality with plenty of variation. Friendly staff; 24 hour access.

Nothing to mention; didn't experience any of the noise issues others experienced (unless you count the traffic at certain times) nor the locals/location.

The personal is superb, very very helpful, and always ready to help. The building itself is mesmerising and beautiful, as well as the rooms, especially the ceiling. I think this old school design is definitely something worth paying a bit extra. The bedding and towels were changed daily. It is also not that far from certain tourist sites

Rooms could be cleaner, there was some visible dust in the corners. The breakfast was quite poor, and not really worth paying for. Rooms require some refreshment, if not a complete renovation. I understand, that the building is quite old, and it is hard to place a bathroom anywhere else, but the way it was placed, made it very loud for the rest of the room, and since there is no ventilation, you leave the bathroom with humidity and quite steamy. Also, the area was quite sketchy at night, but otherwise quite peaceful.

The hotel is in a nice location, opposite a lovely park and about a 20 minite walk from the town.

The room didn't look anything like the photo, there were flies everywhere and damp on the bathroom walls. The shower was cracked and dirty. I didn't stay and had to find alternative accommodation, thankfully I was given a full refund.

For an expensive price, we got the semi basement room, which was right next to the hotel entrance. In the morning and late at night you could hear loud noises because of people coming in and out.

The best thing about the  Rex Hotel is the building itself. It’s absolutely amazing - a grand, nineteenth century house, even a palace, built for wealthy Porto merchants. The ceiling in our room was made up of elaborate plasterwork and paintwork, including portraits of some of its original owners. Really spectacular! /see picture/ It was also a huge room - and the ceiling was probably about five metres high. Not sure how many of the rooms on offer are this special, though. The ceilings of the reception, staircase and breakfast were almost as impressive - really beautiful. The staff were also absolutely lovely.

Downside - it is much further away from the historic centre than you’d think, about a half hour walk, although the area itself, where it is, is  perfectly pleasant, with nice bars and little restaurants. Sadly, the hotel also felt quite neglected. Our bathroom was nice, but the carpet in our room was really dirty and stained, and the room was very smelly when we first entered it. Breakfast as well was a let down, could have done with even a boiled egg, or some sort of warm option for the price. You get the feeling someone could make an awful lot more out of this beautiful building. Hope someone does that, because it could be an absolute stunner.

A perfectly located, intimate property with very friendly service. Despite its location on a high ground floor right next to the street, the room was well-soundproofed, equipped with efficient, quiet air conditioning, and a well-equipped bathroom.

Since I was here for work purposes, the room lacked at least one chair and a small table for laptop.

small hotel with only 14 rooms at the edge of town centre ~300 metres from Trindad metro station. Very nice rooms with beautiful historic stucco ceilings and internal wooden shutters for large windows. Wide wooden staircase in a historic building with some modern art on the walls. Rather new bathrooms. Rich breakfast, very friendly staff.

In our room, the carpet needs changing and the brass rail holding the cloth screen of the headboard above the bed was a bit wobbly. No air condition but the high windows allow sufficient air exchange in the night if you are on the first floor.

The management tried charging twice for parking and started causing a scene when I refused to pay twice. It was a terrible journey into the main area of the city but mainly due to roadworks and redevelopment. No fault of the hotel

The fact they have secured parking was very good, dog friendly and there is a dog park across the street.

The room smelled bad like sewer the entire stay, the bathroom walls were dirty and the soap dispenser in the shower was broken. There was a mature gentleman working reception on Wednesday morning who was very rude and not very helpful. This hotel does not offer a breakfast option if it wasn’t pre-ordered with the original booking, they really need to be more attentive to added value services.
