I didn't like being texted for favourable reviews, I didn’t like that the included breakfast was not stocked enough to last through the whole period it was supposed to be available. I didn’t like additional fees on the final bill for what seemed like access to common areas or something. All fees should be on the booking site. That way if you are comparing by price you won’t be surprised.

Fantastic location in Downtown Portland, really groovy shared spaces, from lounge cafe/bar to semi covered outdoor patio, but especially the spacious and very well thought out game room!
Pool table, shuffleboard, darts, giant connect four, jenga and many board/card/dice and wooden checkers type games, it made a bright place on a rainy afternoon.
They also have a huge locker of lendable gear, from cruiser bikes and helmets to video game consoles, binoculars, yoga mats and guitars.
Our king room was small, but the bed luxurious, and the city/patio view out a large window made us cozy instead of cramped.
All the staff was pleasant and helpful, front desk to cafe servers to maids.
We came back muddy from biking along the river, and the room was made up in the evening for us off schedule- including the free bottles of water provided on check in.
I’ll be returning to The Zags next time I’m in Portland.

We received excellent customer service from Brielle. She helped us fix a problem at check out created by another staff member at check in. She was very patient and a delight! Really comfortable robes and great central location.
Carpets were old and stained and felt gross - the room didn't come with slippers so we just left our socks on.
It was implied at check in there was complimentary pastry and coffee for breakfast, but it was for an additional cost a la cart.
All the staff were very friendly but it seems the system might be set up to cause confusion versus confidence.

Really solid choice for downtown Portland. Good location. Close to decent restaurants. Great extras at the hotel. Really liked this place. Not a lot of parking under the building available during peak vacation periods, however, there is lot public parking at an affordable price nearby. We paid $7 overnight at a nearby parking structure on a Saturday, not bad!

Price was outrageous to begin with, and they tacked on an extra $80 “amenities fee” hold on my account, only to be released upon checkout. Concierge was not available, restaurant was out of half their food, and I woke up with a couple of bites, presumably from bugs.

We were really happy with the location and parking garage. It was very easy for us to get in and out the city. The staff was super friendly and helpful. The room in itself was big and clean, and the beds were nice.
For us, the daily amenity fee of $30 was included in the price seen on booking.com. However, we weren't sure and it added some confusion. In addition, we had a door coonecting our room to another room (locked), and it was possible to hear everything our neighbours were saying, which was a bit annoying - especially in the morning. If we stay here again (which we probably will as we have family in the area), we will ask for a room that is not adjoined.

In downtown Portland; the location was great. There was a liquor tasting happening and that was cool. The game room and the ability to check out equipement (e.g. yoga mat) was nice.
We stayed on the 5th floor, cuz you know, "penthouse", but the AC didn't get cold enough and we couldn't adjust the thermostat below like 68, which normally would be fine but because we were on the 5th floor it was still so hot in our room. We left the window ope but there is a bus stop out front and the beeping of the bus was terrible. Even with the window open it was still hot AF in the room. The shower water pressure was pitiful and crummy. These wouldn't have been a big deal if we weren't paying what it cost to stay at Zags. Almost $500 for 3 nights and it was hot and had a crappy shower.

The location was perfect! I would compare the hotel to a mini resort. There was a games/entertainment space, "gear shed" in which you could rent bikes, beach blankets and folding chairs, and various other items. We rode bikes all over to explore the inner city, and we took some chairs out to Cannon Beach.
The staff were friendly, restaurant was yummy and the courtyard had fire pits, and s'more hour was every night 7-8pm.
Staff was also very friendly, knowledgeable and a delight to speak to
Shower water pressure was just "okay". Would have been nice to have the room made up once during our 5 night stay.

We were visiting our son who attended Portland State University, so the location was super. We also enjoyed the large outdoor patio and the fact that we could walk to a huge farmer's market on Saturday morning as well as many great restaurants in the area. We also took advantage of the lovely river walk nearby.
We asked for a room with a courtyard view, but were given a room with a view of the street.

Hidden $30 amenity fee they charge. $40 to park your car at your own risk. Although they gave me the rate that was posted for parking $35.
I would prefer to just have the total all together for the room. It's a bit misleading when booking the room for a night. I thought it was $127 online. Ended up being $250 for the night.

People were always helpful and friendly. The location felt safe (especially compared to other parts of downtown). It was also convenient to walk to other parts of downtown and there were many nearby bus options that were convenient to go to other parts of the city. Really the convenience was very satisfactory. The garden area was very nice to sit in. In general the condition of the hotel was quite nice. I would come back here, if they keep the current price points.
Generally everything was great. I only did not enjoy the amount of offer emails I got in the meantime. The other thing I did not love was the use of plastic during breakfast. I wish they gave out normal and reusable plates and cutlery and cups, instead of the plastic ones - there can be steps taken for sustainability.

When we checked out at 6:30am, no problem for the lovely young man at the front desk to call us a taxi which arrived within about 10 minutes. The hotel is within a short walk of the river and then the walking trial takes you down to the older part of the city. Buses and light rail stop just outside the hotel.
Would have liked more green/fresh foods on the menu. The complimentary breakfast was okay but some fresh fruit would have made it great.

They overcharged us for the fees and it was very uncomfortable explaining to them how booking.com works, asked for room service but they did not change the sheets, the AC was super loud, lots of street noise throughout the night

Amazing location, super clean room, great great great staff, super beautiful design, look, and feel. Loved the patio, the afternoon smores, the dog-friendly atmosphere, etc.
Breakfast was way too basic. Adding variety (for breads, pastries, toppings, juices, etc.), adding diy waffles, fresh fruit, maybe warm scrambled eggs, that’d make a huge difference.

Lovely location, nice friendly front of house staff and a quiet clean room however.....
Upon arrival, I was told management had increased the cost of parking but not updated the prices on the carpark sign!
The breakfast was really poor, paper plates!? If you want an orange juice, pay extra! Breakfast staff was miserable and when asked if I could have some sugar for my coffee was like I had asked for the hardest thing in the world.
Water in your room is $8!!! c'mon, Vegas charges less for that and oh yes, be prepared to be spammed, I have had more emails from this company than any other I can remember, I will not recommend this place or go back, what could be a lovely hotel is ruined by some pretty crass management decisions that the poor front of house have to then deal with

The lobby was interesting.
The AC was turned way down to 65 and the heat did not work. I froze all night. I did not like the undisclosed “amenity fee” ($35) and parking fee ($40) that were sprung on me at check in. I arrived late, and the front door was locked. Eventually I was able to flag down the attendant and gain entrance. I guess there are increased security concerns in Portland these days. The property just impresses me as shabby and needing maintenance/refurbishment.

Everything was great about the property, including location. I love the garden area which was nice, cozy and open.
We were given keys to the wrong room when we first checked in. We also weren’t able to get any help with our housekeeping needs. We asked the front desk twice to get our sheets and towels changed but no one ever came which was a real disappointment.

I loved the smores and the games and how family friendly the amenities were.
Our room smelled like stale smoke. We asked to move to a different room as we have both been recovering from sickness and it was not settling well. We were given a new room but this room also has the same smell and the air was not working. The thermostat read 78 f. We turned it down to 65f and woke up to 76f.
