This is a lovely hotel with an amazing staff; they are initiative, communicative and available. Beds are comfortable,
duvets are the perfect weight. The connected restaurant ( breakfast included) serves excellent coffee and locally sourced fresh food. Centrally located, The Lion is within walking of cultural activities, historic buildings, and shopping. Money exchange is easy and close. There is really nothing not to love about this beautiful hotel! Staff is the very best and went out of their way to be available; Vladimir took an afternoon off to take us personally to the Rila Monastery! Made a great trip exceptional! A wonderful experience!

No breakfast, the restaurant was closed when we arrived. The reception staff told us that breakfast was 20leva per person, (I was travelling with m 11 year old and 16 year old daughters) and on our previous visit, a week ago, it was 15leva... I was looking forward to a buffet breakfast but that was not available...

The streets nearby were not so friendly.
The room was ok, it be better though if they had cleaned it properly. A big minus was that there was noise all day and night long from the streets . Tram,cars,buses even sounds of the street lights were audible inside the room . As a result it was difficult to sleep .

Excellent location, very near the Metro line 2 station (Lvov Most) and within walkable distance from the city centre (10-15 minutes walk to 'Largo'). Very good choice for a short stay in Sofia. No luxuries, but cozy.
The neighbourhood is not at its best. Still, it seemed quite safe (and lively), well served by small but fairly good food places and supermarkets.

BREAKFASTS WERE GREAT. It was a'la carte and delicious. Finally something different than usual in hotels. Rooms are also really ok. The location is one of the best. 500m to the Largo, metro station just under the hotel. Everything was better than I expected.

The hotel had everything that we needed. Clean and tidy. I particularly like the simple shower that provided a good jet of water (not like some hotel showers where all you get is a dribble). Location is good. A short walk from the centre but on the Metro line with buses and tram stops just outside also. The cafe/restaurant next door was good as was the Bridge Hotel, the otherside of the Lion Bridge. Staff were helpful especially the nice young man who made sure we got a taxi to the airport ok.
There was a fridge and kettle and cups in the room. And with Lidl next door we ensured we had our early morning coffee.
Definitely recommend to the budget/midrange traveller.

We loved the views from the window, the big bed, and the hot bath.
Our original room smelled like cigarette smoke but once we complained, they quickly moved us to another room that was perfect.
There is a tram that runs outside that causes some noise that may disturb light sleepers.

We had a great welcome from the receptionist as she was very helpful, The staff were pleasant, room was clean and comfortable. Location was great a short 10 minute walk to the city centre or take the tram for less than £1.00 GBP.
Breakfast was a set menu with a limited choice.
The cafe is shared with the public so as a guest who has prepaid you might not get a seat.

The location was great - right beside the metro station and within talking distance to many of the attractions we wanted to see. Rooms were spacious and clean. We took the breakfast, which offered a good selection from a set menu.
The check-in time listed through booking.com was incorrect, but they let us leave our luggage to check in later and gave us recommendations on things to see in the neighbourhood.

Staff was rather rude, we had an early arrival and asked for early check-in… they agreed and then it never happened. Every employee gave us a different answer about when we could check in. Photo of the front looked great, hurra for photoshop, restaurant next door had a good burger, water pressure in shower was decent and the pillows comfortable.
Room stunk of raw sewage and mold, the carpet is stained up, and looks like it’s original from when the hotel was built. The WiFi didn’t work, which was no surprise for the staff, when we inquired about it. We checked out after one night as it was unbearable to stay in the stink any longer, staff just shrugged their shoulders like they were used to it. Talked to other guests, who also said their rooms smelled bad. It’s surrounded by a dirty and ill maintained neighborhood, over all a shame, for this architectural gem, they clearly need the money to repair it, would have like to be able to say something more positive, but unfortunately it would be unfair to other guests not to give you a head up.

The location.
The bed was missing the toppings. So you can feel the mattress springs stabbing, the front desk attitude is not appropriate, no late check out, and when you ask them they say 11pm while on booking it says 12pm. The hotel is very noisy, the walls are like biscuits you can hear all rooms around you, you are on the street so all cars, metro shaking, trams!! Also, they don’t offer free bottled water water

One of the best hotels I’ve stayed at in Europe. The room was spacious and clean. The water pressure and heat for the shower were excellent. The breakfast was varied and good.
The WiFi was very weak in my room so I had to go down to the lobby to use my phone.
