99% of the staff was very friendly and nice to interact with, both at the Hotel and at the Restaurant. I actually stayed twice in this hotel, pre and post cruise. The location is great, you just need to cross the street to get to the beach area, and the beach is probably 3 minutes away. The hotel offers chairs to bring to the beach as well as beach towels (to request to the reception). The room(s) I stayed at were pretty good (see negative section for what I didn't like), I was at the 3rd and 2nd floor. I'd also like to mention that although you pay for breakfast (there's a special rate for guests), the food is pretty good. I ate there also for a few lunches and dinners and always liked it except for one dish, which is ok. The restaurant is a bit expensive, dining alone costed me around 100/120$ every time.

Rooms aren't cleaned well, but I think it's also with the type of flooring the room has. It's definitely a plus that there's no carpet, however if I used a towel to walk on the floor after a shower, the towel was gray underneath afterwards. I did see the cleaning staff cleaning, so they're definitely doing it, I just think either not enough time is dedicated to each room or something else could be improved. The room I had at the second floor was a bit loud, not so much from outside (which is to be expected) but from the people upstairs and next to my room: very loud. The bathroom is very outdated. Overall though, I was ok to stay here again, I had the option to cancel and I didn't because I really liked the staff, the restaurant, the location and overall the room was ok.

I loved the proximity to the beach, right across the street. It’s a cool Art Deco Hotel with a fantastic restaurant.

They no longer include free breakfast for guests. It’s loud at night, since it’s right on Ocean Avenue. Our room was in the front, closest to the street. We had to sleep with earplugs.

Reception called to our room at 1 am to ask me to spell my name. This was after another family tried to enter our room. Apparently the reception made a mistake in assigning rooms. As a family with a young child this was disturbing and made us feel unsafe.

Great location, good value for money. Loved the refillable water bottles and that water was available through the property.

We stayed 4 nights and when arrived the room was clean. The third day, nobody came to do the room and when we came back, after a day out we found it as we left it. When they did it the second day, the bathroom was not completely clean, it was some hair on the floor, proof that it was not cleaned properly. The rooms were a little outdated.

Avalon isn’t a four star hotel that’s for sure. Misrepresentation regarding beach chairs as one would think that guests have access to two chairs on the beach but instead it’s two heavy chairs plastic and metal that are in your closet and that you need to carry to the beach. For me this is unacceptable to carry heavy chairs a long distance in the heat to the beach. The Avalon has beautiful outdoor architecture and the restaurant as well as most of the staff are good but it’s not a four star hotel that’s for sure.

Beautiful art deco hotel. Tastefully restored and maintained. Friendly and helpful staff, awesome location a few steps from the beach. Very pleasant outdoor and indoor restaurant and bar options with old school charm: white linen table cloths, Deco table lighting, live music at a volume that permits conversation, lovely orchids and wall art, high ceilings :-) We had a relaxing and enjoyable stay. I can definitely recommend it.

I would have liked to have a kettle in the room. But the aluminum refillable water bottles were great.

On arrival, the lift was not working and no assistance was offered. The room we were allocated was filthy: hairs throughout, sticky surfaces, and a toilet that did not flush. There was also no storage or space to hang clothes. The room was completely unacceptable and not fit for guests. We left after only a few hours. When we informed reception, there was no concern, apology, or attempt to resolve the situation. When I followed up with a message they didn’t acknowledge any resolution. This was a deeply disappointing experience and far below any reasonable hotel standard. We would not recommend staying here.

As I've been to this hotel many times, I liked that they have renovated many areas and the rooms. It has been 9 years since my last visit and now it feels more comfortable.

The only problem was that the lift didn't work for almost 4 days when we stayed there but the reception abd the concierge was really helpful with our luggages.
