The location is fantastic, right in the middle of all the South Beach action, and the art deco exterior and lobby made staying there feel like stepping back in time. The bed was comfortable, the shower hot, with great water pressure. The free welcome cocktail at the bar a couple of doors down was a nice touch.

The room was small and very minimally furnished, and lacked the character of the lobby. They only offer valet parking for $42 per night. I self parked at the garage next door to the hotel for $30 for 24 hours. Probably a similar situation at most of the old art deco hotels in Miami Beach, but be prepared for pricy additional parking charges.

The 3 employees that I dealt with on multiple occasions were very pleasant, and the gentleman who helped me check out made it very easy and seamless.

I arrived at the hotel early, so the room was not ready yet. They were able to provide me with another room (for a fee, early check-in). First, I must say, I DO understand that these are older properties in that area, and the sound proof is not the best. That being said, once getting off the elevator, I could hear what sounded like parties happening in 2 of the rooms, 1 of which being right next to mine, and an abundance of cameras. So, I am not sure if that made me feel reassurance or unsafe in the building/area. Lastly, the room was okay, one thing I will mention is that it is the outside noise level is quite high, so if you are a light sleeper, or you are looking for a peaceful place to stay, this is NOT the place for you. This was not necessarily an issue knowing in advance the location of the hotel. It was expected. I did have one other issue with the room, which was the bathroom. Firstly the bathroom itself was on a slant, kind of like if you are in a fun house and the floor is leaning to one side, also the toilet did not flush well, you would need to literally flush it 3 times in a row for it to flush properly. To the point where it became a running joke that every time my partner or I had to flush, we would start singing the "pump it" song. Lastly, there was mold along the tub and on top in certain areas. It also looked like they had done some renovations (painting), but were very lazy about it, leaving the roll of toilet paper on the holder, and when the door with the wet paint opened it stuck to the door, and the same with a closed roll that you can see the design print of the paper stuck to the wall and the closed roll beside it. I have attached a few photos. Overall, it was not a horrible experience, but it was far from a good one. If you don't have high expectations of the property, and are just looking for a night's stay, and you will be partying the majority of the night you probably will not be bothered by the things...

Experience was awful. They gave away our rooms and we had no place to stay at midnight. It took us two hours to find another place. They said that booking oversold rooms. The attendant said they have Ben waiting for me to tell me they had no rooms. They didn’t even try to calll. She said her manager left and told her that she would have to tell me we had no rooms. I tried to get a confirmation receipt from her that said they had no rooms, but she wouldn’t give me one. Said she couldn’t. I have confirmation from booking that they had rooms but they didn’t. This whole experience was infuriating and Booking has yet to contact me. I’m out over $790. We barely found a room for our family if 5 at 2am in the morning if and we had to cram in one room instead of 2. This hotel did NOTHING to make things right. On top of it, I lost $40 for parking garage and they basically told me tough luck. DO NOT STAY HERE. Terrible staff

Very noisy area and dated property. Music and partying didn’t stop until 4/5am. Minimal to no sleep. Rooms aren’t great either, toilet took 4/5 flushes to work. Staff rude and manager is a liar. Promised a refund then denied ever saying that. Poor effort Joel. I would avoid at all costs, especially if you have a young family.

I walked around to the other side of the bar and when I got back to my husband he said that a very tall Caucasian security guard told him he had to leave. When my husband stated "im waiting for my wife" the security responded " your wife is not here" not sure why he would say that when he did not know who I was or what I looked like. I have stayed at Essex for 9 years straight every summer and never had a bad experience until.this weekend.

I absolutely loved my stay at the Essex House Hotel! The room was extremely clean and comfortable, which made my stay so enjoyable. The location is everything—it was so convenient to get around and explore the area. The staff was always so accommodating and friendly, making sure every detail was taken care of. And I have to mention—the shower was a whole experience! The water was perfectly hot with great pressure, which was such a treat after a long day out. Overall, I couldn’t have asked for a better stay. I’d definitely come back and highly recommend the Essex House Hotel to anyone visiting the area!

Overall, my stay at the Essex House Hotel was pleasant, but there were a few things that could be improved. I was given room 317, and I noticed that the toilet didn’t flush instantly. It usually took three to four flushes after each use to get a full flush, which was a bit inconvenient. Additionally, the bathroom was quite small—though I understand that’s part of the historic charm and character of the hotel. With a few updates to the plumbing, this room could easily match the high standards the rest of the hotel offers.

Staff were not attentive. Our toilet wouldn’t flush and I had to ask twice to get it looked at. Then it took 6 hours for someone to show up. I asked for towels twice and they never came. I had to go to front desk myself and ask for beach towels so we could shower. Our toilet never got fixed. The maintenance guy said he was sorry, it’s just low water pressure and we will have to flush the toilet more often. Sometimes it took 7 flushes to work. Completely unacceptable and unsanitary. I would never stay there again, even if it were free.

It took over 30 mins to check in with only one member of staff on the reception and a huge line of about 10 people waiting to check in. The corridor floors were full of stains everywhere The room floor was also dirty and dusty I got locked outside along side others for over 30 minutes on Monday night because the key card wouldn’t work on the outside door and we couldn’t get through to reception.
