The Gunter Hotel San Antonio Riverwalk, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel San Antonio is located in downtown San Antonio and across the street from the scenic San Antonio River Walk. After undergoing a $50 million renovation, the new iteration of the 116 year old hotel is modernized with new bathrooms, mid-century inspired fixtures, rich color palates and more. As a nod to Blues legend Robert Johnson, who recorded his first album at the hotel in 1936, each room is equipped with a record player and a copy of his first record.
The hotel also features a vinyl library in the lobby that guests can take advantage of during their stay. This revitalization includes four new dining and bar concepts, a cutting-edge recording studio, and modern amenities while preserving the Gunter's rich heritage and historic significance. Guests can begin the day with a morning workout in the fitness center, or take a refreshing swim in the heated pool.

Location, and the hotel's amazing history!
We booked two rooms and were given rooms on the 8th floor. The Double Room with 2 beds was quite spacious - and perfect for 3 people. The Queen Room for two was quite small, with not a lot of space to move around - especially as my son and his partner had a service dog with them.

could keep it up better. wallpaper was peeling, paint was chipping, wood work was damaged. TV didn't work in first room. Both rooms one of the phone charging ports were broken. Also, for such a historic hotel with a great history they could display more historical photo's, pictures etc. The rooms had cheesy meaningless pictures hanging, not impressive.

very loud downtown road & traffic noise - definitely bring your ear plugs! ๏ฟผ One of the elevators was broken (we were NOT told) and did not let us out on our floor, which was one of the top floors. ๏ฟผ So I had the idea to go to the very top floor, and then just walk down a flight of stairs to our floor. ๏ฟผ Well, that did not work - all of the floors were locked (our key card didnt work) and we had to walk ALL the way down to the bottom. ๏ฟผ My husband brought this up when we checked ๏ฟผout. Hotel management was supposed to call and discuss, presumably to apologize for the inconvenience, but never did. So the staff failing to communicate that (except for a hospitality person that was very sweet to let us know the situation) and the management failure ๏ฟผto follow up, it was good. If youโre looking for the MOST convenient hotel to the Majestic, then this is your place, but the Drury 2 blocks away might have less road noise & more amenities. The bed and pillows were meh. I would not write home about them.

The bartender was great and made a great espresso martini. The location was great close to the Riverwalk.
First room I was given had to flooded bathroom and the second room didnโt have any windowsโฆ Well, they were there, but they were covered up by a film you couldnโt see through and you couldnโt open them. Felt like you could open if you really wanted to didnโt feel safeโฆ The room was very large, but very outdated and the carpet definitely needed to be replaced soon. I like being close to downtown and the location
The cleanliness of the room was something to be desired. There were pubic hairs in every corner in the bathroom. A bug in the tub. The rooms tv didn't work. So they relocated us to another room where the neighbors kids screamed all night till 2am. Yeah not the best stay we've had.

Sheraton Gunter is a pet friendly hotel near Travis Park, which is very convenient for our pup. Staff was friendly, check in was fast and easy, valet was prompt. The location is near restaurants, bars, and shopping. The details in the building and decor are beautiful. We will definitely make a return trip soon.

I love the location of the hotel , every thing was in walking distance from the river walk to the Alamo. The front desk was great , the historical part of the hotel was awesome .
The only bad i can say about the hotel is walls are super thin , you hear it all . At 2am to 4pm on my floor ppl coming back drunk , talking mad loud in the hallways . Few times had to even get up and ask them please we are sleeping have respect, Sad ppl have no respect of others now of days just do whatever they want . I see why they have a white noise machine with ear buds by the bed .

I liked the location.
I paid for a king size bed and was switched to a queen because of a flood, the bathroom was tiny. We could not get an elevator because they were being used by the construction workers for equipment transfer. It was overall a very uncomfortable stay. We checked out a day early and was not offered a refund. I am a frequent visitor of the Riverwalk and will make sure to seek other accommodations.

Did not like the bracts that Booking.com did not inform the visitors to this hotel sight that their famous bar is closed Sundays thru Wednesdays. We booked to experience the "speak easy" atmosphere. Disappointing. Next time, I'll check out the hotel website to make sure all my amenities are available.

We were treated very well by the entire staff. They were all friendly, courteous, helpful and professional. I was given exceptional treatment by everyone. As a Disabled Veteran, I was treated with exceptional service and kindness from providing me with free valet parking and assistance whenever needed. We were so impressed by our first visit that we plan on using the Gunter hotel as our primary hotel on all future visits to San Antonio.

The best ever hotel in all Texas! Just renovated. Very beautiful, fancy, modern! Totally perfect. There is a great bakery just next door, we had a great time there. There is great things in this hotel is vinyl which you can choose and grab to your room for free and enjoy a great music. The location is amazing! Really few steps to the famous river walk!

One of the nicest most unique hotels ever. We normally donโt stay in hotels and go for an Airbnb but this checked all the boxes. Older vibe all around music and old architecture with all the new feel from the furniture, to the light fixtures, and all the great amenities.
Only negative to even speak of, which is just the area not their fault, is paying $60 a night to park

Amazing staff, really lovely hotel to spend time in as well as well located for the rodeo which is why we were in town. loved the bars and the drinks available

The location overall was convenient. All the stores were within walking distance and the majestic theater was right across the street which made travel to the concert easy and simple. The building is historic and just walking through we couldn't help but admire the architecture. The front desk person even walked through "harry potter" door which gave it all a little whimsy.
