The location is great, close to many restaurants, shops and a grocery store (Trader Joe’s). I booked a private bathroom and it was clean with fully stocked bottles of shampoo, conditioner and body wash.
They don’t offer luggage storage. You have to pay at a luggage storage place around the corner. Wish they had a gym.

Well situated in downtown. Lot’s of restaurants around the area.
The staff asked for our credit card details before checking-in which is a bit tricky. I have already paid 100% of our stay prior to our arrival. They said that it is for security deposit or something. What I hate is the requirement of giving them your credit cards information including the 3 digit pin. So I had to lock my cc right away! Lol. Plus there is no receptionist almost the time so when you have concerns and staff, it will not be attended quickly.

Very efficient room. Rooms Seemed larger than 150 square feet. Nice well stocked bathroom. Best deal in SF. Much cleaner and less seasoned than competitors. Neighborhood seems like it’s starting to rebound from retail store closures and empty office space. Hustle and bustle seemed back. Make sure you book a room with a private bathroom. Nice place, very well managed hotel. No security deposit required at check in. One of my favorite hotels in the city. Rooms feature excellent ventilation with functional windows, bathroom fan and ceiling fan. Safe space for LGBT travelers.

The building is very beautiful.
Perhaps the rooms could have a small coffee maker or microwave. There is no ice machine either. However, we really enjoyed the stay and the views from our 7th floor rooms.

perfect place if ur looking to a room with private bathroom close to union square.
Two emails sent prior accomdation for an inquiy..one through booking app...were never answered...finding staff to exchange towels just occured only twice during our stay. Usually missing reception personel with a note to find them at another hotel 200 meters walking. reception employees have least troubleshooting skills. Avoid their reception to your shippments (from amazon for example)...Shippments show up later than received sometimes...lost/missed other times...with no serious/sincere help from the hotel representatives in this regards.

I was looking for a more affordable stay in this neighbourhood as I was attending an international conference. And glad I found and chose the Bartlett Guesthouse. Good location, nice spacious room and bathroom, nice bed. Nice staff, special thanks to Olivia, she was very friendly and helpful! And there was a voucher for a complimentary beer next door which is one of the best pubs around. The building is probably old but I liked the atmosphere and even the smell of it.
There was a safe box and fridge in the room.
The window was facing the wall, it was a bit disappointing at first (it was my first time in the city) but okay. No AC just fan at the ceiling but it was also okay, it wasn’t a hot week. Could have used more shelves to store clothing. And I like when hotels provide body lotion (I would trade it for the hair conditioner :)) but that’s the economy hotel so can’t be too greedy. Luggage storage after checking out was a bit expensive (more than $8 even for 3 hours), but again, considering the total price it was tolerable.
I wad a bit cautious about the neighbourhood but didn’t encounter any problems.
Overall the whole experience was great. I would stay there again and recommend to friends.

I liked the cleanliness of the room, having our own private bathroom/shower with the complimentary Shampoo/Conditioner was a nice touch, made my hair super soft. You do have to request cleaning services if you want, but you are able to get clean linens+towels for free.
Quite safe I found when it got dark at nights.
It was satisfactory stay, I don't think I have any thing I didn't like. Met my needs for the stay.

The location was excellent. The staff was nice. The bed was comfortable. Despite it being a busy area, there wasn't much noise, it was nice and quiet.
The safe was too small to fit a laptop; nothing happened to our laptops, but we would have felt safer if we could have left them in the safe when we went out. One of the bedside lamps wasn't working. There was no view, just a wall right outside our window, though that's not a main issue because we were always out exploring the city, and only came back to the hotel to take a shower and sleep.

Good location. It is outdated and we stayed right near the elevator and the doors open and close and slam all night so hardly slept. Our 4 night stay we didnt get our room serviced so ran out of toilet paper and there is hardly ever anyone at the desk so trying to get help is hard.
Level 2 has a kitchen and laundry which we didnt know about but is great

The location was great and quite central, you are close to pretty much anything you need, restaurants, shops, markets and public transportations. The cable car station is minutes away by walking. The room was spacious and clean, good value for money, I would love to come back again.

In order for you to check in you have to go up the street to their sister hotel just to check in, then walk back to the Bartlett. If you need anything from front desk you'll have to go to the other hotel. Was disappointed they said we would have a front desk multiple times but wouldn't show up until hours after they said they would

Very convenient location just around the corner from Union Square.
Very grimy room. Hairs in the sink and on the curtains when I arrived and stains on the walls. The toilet in my room flooded during my stay, and while they offered me another room, there were horrible stains in the other room so I chose to keep the first one I was given once housekeeping had fixed it up.
Hairdryers (or fresh towels) aren't by default in the room and you have to request them at reception for someone to bring them up to you. I had planned this out and had someone drop up a hairdryer to me but the one they brought up was actually broken - but the reception at the Bartlett normally isn't manned. So then I had to go out, around the block to the other hotel, and wait for them to find another hairdryer I could use.
The place also smelled terrible. Any time I left the room it either stank of weed or cigarette smoke.
Also, they position having a washer/dryer/kitchen as a point of difference. However they do not provide washing detergent or cutlery.

I would like to say you get what you pay for, but to be honest you don't.
We booked there five nights. Which I would say is the decent amount of time to form a full opinion.
Saw the check in staff on the first day of check-in and maybe twice again after that.
Overall, they really don't have the basics covered such as a working shower or cleanliness of the room.
We got a room with a private bathroom.
The pictures looked better than the actual room.
When we entered the room, the floors were very sticky, to the point, my husband refused to remove his shoes. Took a bit of convincing. There was still other people's hair in the shower, and wrapped around the hotel shampoo bottles. Quite ew.
Yes, we booked a room with our own bathroom, but the shower didn't work only the faucet in the tub. It was a very uncomfortable shower, but too lazy to try and sort it out with the staff that is nowhere to be found. So we just stuck it out.
Would like to mention kind of an important note in regards to the location (which is not their fault ) but because this hotel borders the tenderloin neighborhood, which is an undesirable location currently in San Francisco (do your own research why) at night it gets a bit shady. Research well which streets you should or not walk through when returning to the hotel.

They do not clean at all. Although in the page they say “not everyday cleaning” the truth is that they don’t clean at all.
Even though we requested new towels twice they didn’t bother to take the old ones.
The elevator was very slow, most of the time we took the stairs (3rd floor).
The desk is hardly occupied and even when it is we got a very cold responses.

Its a good budget option closer to Union square, particularly for business traveller with busy days needing a place to sleep through the night. Rooms were decent size. It was quiet even though there were many venues around.
The checking was at their sister hotel across the block. Was a hassle to carry bags, when you are tired.
The toiletries in the bathroom could have been better.
The lights could have been better.
