The location is good, close to the center, we arrived in the evening and the girl with long hair at the reception was very kind. We received all the necessary information related to parking. Breakfast very good. Check-in and check-out very fast.

The complete impression of staying in the hotel was spoiled by the fact that it is very cold in the hotel. Not only in the room but in the bathroom where there is a radiator that unfortunately did not work. The temperature on the thermostat says 21, but it was nowhere near that. The bathroom is uncomfortably cold. Likewise, the breakfast area is extremely cold and we did not feel comfortable at all, although the area looks nice and the service is good. Unfortunately, that was the reason we decided to change hotels after one night.

This is a very good hotel ideally placed between the historical center of Trieste and its bus & railway station. I stayed in a single room (no. 404), in the attic as I understand all singles are in this hotel. That didn’t bother me much, although the sloped roof caused me to bump my head into one of the several beams in the room more than a couple of times. Other than that, the room is by no means small, by Italian standards, nor is the bed which is somewhere in between a single and a double bed. The room is well lit (quite rare nowadays) and well equipped, the tea & coffee jug, the safe, and mini-fridge proving really useful. The bathroom is really big, not only by Italian standards, but European ones as well. The water pressure in shower was very good. I cannot fault the cleanliness in either room or bathroom. The breakfast was outstanding for a 4* hotel! I would point out the hot buffet that was (in part) different every day from the day before, which it typical of 5* hotels. The personnel both at reception and the breakfast room was helpful and smiling. All in all, if ever again in the beautiful city of Trieste I will stay again at Solun Hotel.

The outer part of the entrance door to my room was damaged, I had to pull or push forcefully to open or close the door. The reception was aware of the problem, they said it would be solved soon. Storage in room was somehow insufficient in my opinion, with the rather-original wardrobe not to my liking. Bath towels could be of a superior quality. The breakfast room is in the bar on the ground floor, that is adjacent to the hotel entrance. During winter it can get cool or a little windy in there. It’s a pity the hot varieties at breakfast are not kept in heated facilities, so they get cold fairly soon, especially in winter. A small investment in this respect is clearly needed. TV stopped working the day prior to my leaving, but I did not bother much.

Great location close to the station and canal. Walked one block to a pedestrian street with shops and restaurants leading the the canal. We booked a large room that had a sofa that my daughter slept on. The bed was super comfy and the bathroom was nice. My husband thought this was a very expensive hotel based on the room. The breakfast in the morning was really nice with a great selection.

It is in a great location to walk to some of the sites. The room is a very nice size, and we liked the room layout. The shower was nice and we liked the more modern shower head and shower wand.

The location is good and the rooms are nice and spacious.

We had a terrible night here on 29 April. I have never once complained about a hotel (and am a very frequent traveller) but I feel I have to complain about this night. Our original room (room 406) was insufferably hot. 26 degrees inside. The airconditioning didn’t work and never cooled down the room. We were shown two other rooms (the receptionist in the evening was trying to help and was friendly and polite) - neither of which were cool but were a little bit better. We moved to room 206. With the airconditioning on full the room temperature never got below 24.8 degrees. It was boiling and airless. In the end, at 1am we had to open the windows as the temperature in the room was rising despite the air condition being on full. But the street outside must be the loudest street in Trieste. The sound of trucks and cars kept us awake all night, the room actually shakes and tremors when cars or trucks drive past. There was also a strong smell of petrol fumes from the trucks going past. Even with earplugs the noise was impossible. When we complained in the morning about our terrible night the receptionist was dismissive and rude and told us that we were lucky we only paid 115 euros because usually the room is more like 170 euros. The attitude was very strange. This is not good value for money. I would never recommend this hotel. And I feel like I was totally ripped off and am exhausted after such an uncomfortable night.

Hotel Solun is very characterful and in a great central location , within walking distance of the canal and main piazza where there are plenty of bars and restaurants . We had the executive suite , which was very spacious and quiet considering that the hotel is on an incredibly busy street . The room was very clean with tea and coffee . We also had access to our Netflix account on the TV. Staff were polite and helpful when asked .

We stayed for 5 nights and I’m afraid to say that breakfast was very unsatisfactory , not 4 star quality and probably the worst I’ve ever had in any hotel in Italy or other European countries. Bread was terrible , cheap supermarket stuff and there were no croissants 2 days , fruit was mostly unripe , “hot” food consisted mainly of congealed scrambled egg and fatty bacon which had gone cold . It seemed like we were given left overs from staff evening meals - cold broccoli and carrot one day . There was a bit of salad which was a blessing but few healthy options , including no muesli which ran out and was never replaced .No toaster which is unbelievable and no self serve coffee machine . You had to ask at bar for coffee . This was a pricey hotel and we didn’t get value for money .I’m afraid this affected my scoring . Air con was not cold enough in very hot weather ( 28/29) so we were uncomfortable at night - it’s set centrally and wouldn’t go below 23 .

Location was near our port of embarkation for the cruise. It's walkable but because of our luggage it's not advisable to do so. The location was quiet and close to the shopping area and some iconic attractions like the Grand Canal and the Unity Square. And because we were upgraded to a larger room without any additional fees, I love this hotel even more! Thank you to the staff who was present on the day we checked in ( Sept 20 at 2pm). I apologize for forgetting her name. She was so.kind. The hotel was clean and we had a change of towels everyday. Love that!The staff at the dining area where we have the free breakfast was friendly and cheery. The price for the 2- day accommodation was affordable. Check in and check out were expeditiously processed. I would stay here again. Highly recommended.

The location allowed easy walking to cruise terminal, and most Trieste venues.

No taxi at train terminal, so had to walk not knowing which direction to go. Then this is a very busy street with no place to pull off the street except the sidewalk. Then as arrival was late evening, their restaurant was closed.

The room was very nice. The only thing that surprised us is that though we were able to check in because the room had been serviced and was ready, there was still garbage in both waste baskets and it looked like dusting had not been done well in quite some time. Breakfast was disappointing, rather basic. The location of Hotel Solun to the Old City was very acceptable which is what I seek when I book accommodation as I enjoy walking about, even in the evening and found it to be safe.

The attitude of one staff member was unnecessary given his position.

The hotel is well situated near the city centre and bay. Easy access to public transportation as well as private taxi. The hotel is stylish and has a great ambience - stone, warm woods, and attractive styling details. The staff are generally courteous and helpful. The morning breakfast buffet is nice with a variety of both traditional (eggs, meat, cheese, pastries, etc.) and healthy selections (fruits, yogurt, oatmeal, etc.) The coffee was quite good :-) .

1. I believe the website claimed that there was a bar on onsite. There appeared to be one, but it was never open. At one point I asked the desk staff if I could get a glass of wine, and they were able to get me one from the bar - it was not particularly good. 2. On one day, I had an early departure and was hoping for coffee before I began the day. The housekeeping staff failed to leave coffee for the in-room machine the day before, and the restaurant was not open. There were no staff to be found at the front desk at 5:30 (even though I was told there was 24 hour desk service) and it was a bit of a disappointment for people who like to start the day with coffee.

Our stay at the hotel was absolutely perfect. The room was beautiful, spotlessly clean, and pleasantly fragrant. The bed and pillows were extremely comfortable, ensuring a great night’s sleep. The location is excellent, just a few minutes’ walk from the city center. Breakfast was great, with a very good selection and quality.

Julia was so kind, as was all the staff, but Julia was who we saw most, and she went above and beyond to help us with extra information, and helping us get our Slovenia vignette. Hotel location, was perfect, comfy beds and room, breakfast was top notch, close to the train station, recommended restaurant, Pepe's was a 15 out of 10! We had a car, and parking was safe and right down the street! I'm so glad we stayed at Hotel Solun!!

We really loved this place. The hotel was nice, clean, and in a perfect location, with amazing staff and spacious rooms. It was within walking distance of the train station and main attractions, which was a big plus, while still being in a calm and lovely neighborhood.
