For me, the Drake is the Grand Dame of Chicago hotels. It was our 40th wedding anniversary and we had spent our wedding night there. We were upgraded to a marvelous suite and were able to entertain family comfortably with our gorgeous lake view.

Most staff were excellent, very welcoming and helpful. However, briana(?) in coffee shop was spectacularly rude and unhelpful, extremely condescending. Not in keeping with Drake standards at all, needs serious retraining. Hotel is my fave Chicago spot, despite rooms being somewhat tired. The history, ambience, staff and downstairs bar staff especially keep me a loyal Drake customer, versus nearby glitter updated hotels. Afternoon tea definitely NOT worth the money foodwise, though the ambience is classy and relaxing.
Batista in downstairs coffee shop had cream bad attitude, hostile, rude, ignorant. Cashier was lovely, but batista needs serious attitude adjustment to serve customers at the Drake standard. Serious let down of customer service there!

The location was great! Lobby was very pretty.
Everything else! The first room we received was a shoebox and the window was tucked behind a groove so it seemed like a jail cell and the TV was caddy corner to the bed with only a small path to walk past the bed. We went down to switch rooms and were only able to get one with windows if we paid for an upgrade, which we ended doing. Then, the rooms were very outdated. The vanity was small, tub backed up, sink backed up, and the toilet was difficult to flush and had a weird thing you pulled sticking out of the wall. The bed was so uncomfortable and the carpet was old and dusty. At check out we were ambushed by a Hilton salesman as we were running out the door. Choose the Westin or something else close because this is not the luxurious hotel that is marketed.

The hotel is in a great location and the common areas are very nice. The staff are incredible!
Rooms are small and very dated. Clean but with some maintenance issues for plumbing and fixtures. I would not book here again for the price until they have upgraded significantly.

We were only provided with 4 pillows and they were half the size of a pancake. We woke up with our necks in extreme pain.
The room was also insanely hot. We used the control to turn it down but it never got below about 68 degrees until probably the middle of the night.

The Drake is a classic hotel. The rooms are large, the hallways are large, it has an excellent location, and the mattresses are very comfortable. This time I tried room service. For $20 I had the best Reuben sandwich I've ever had. If you are looking for a "Chic avant-garde" hotel, this is not it. If you are looking for a classic hotel, with large rooms, elegance, etc. then you have found a great place. This was my second time, and I will go back.
Many of the rooms at the Drake overlook Michigan Ave. I paid extra for a high level floor and I got the 8th floor. Even with the drapes closed, you will get some street noise. If you are sensitive to street noise, you should be aware of this. The noise dropped off after about 11 p.m., so even though I am a light sleeper, and street noise bothers me, I still slept very well.

The ambiance for the Christmas holiday was awesome.

the doorman was awesome. He was always in a good mood and smiling and offering to help take pictures, etc. Also the bartenders were great in the onsite lounge / restaurant. The staff in general were very nice and helpful. Location was great and convenient to many sites, attractions and activities in the downtown area, and our room had a fantastic view of the lake and the little lighted gazebo across the street which we definitely enjoyed.
The rooms were a bit dated, but given that this is a historic hotel it was not a huge deal. Also It would have been nice to at least have a small microwave in the room. Also, it's worth nothing that this hotel is beautiful and as such they seem to book alot of special events that are held in their main restaurant/event area. That being said, by far the worst thing about the trip was an extremely RUDE attendant / security person at an event/party of some type that was being held in said area, during our stay. We were nicely dressed and just returning from dinner elsewhere when my wife was rudely stopped when we walked up the stairs to check out the area in general and told we weren't allowed to be up there...despite the fact we were staying there for many days as guests, and we had literally just walked to the top of the stairs leading to that area to find out when it might be accessible for the actual PAYING GUESTS of the hotel.

I had a wonderful stay at The Drake. The location is perfect—right in the heart of the city—making it easy to explore nearby attractions. The building itself has a historic charm, yet everything is meticulously maintained. My room was spacious, comfortable, and felt very inviting.
I went to see The Phantom of the Opera, and getting to and from the theater via Lyft was very convenient. Breakfast at the hotel café was delightful and felt very homey. I especially appreciated that they offered coffee to go—it was such a thoughtful touch.
I would highly recommend The Drake to anyone visiting Chicago!
